How to Draw Asian Eyes Step by Step

In this tutorial you will learn how to draw beautiful eyes easily, step by step. Apart from the eyes you can see above, you will also draw an eye like this:

The first thing is to estimate the eye size and length. Let’s draw the line like this, with a little angle. Draw two little lines at either sides of the line. The first lines needs to be subtle, not too dark, so that you can erase them if you make a mistake.

Draw smooth lines to make an almond-like shape. Round off the corner and you will see how straightaway it looks like a real human eye.

It’s important to have an example in front of you when you are drawing human eyes. Put a small mirror or have a photo of eyes in front of you (real or drawn). Look closely at it. Can you see how the lower eyelid is not flat but sort standing out? That’s it. Add another line below and draw eyelashes along it. Now draw the pupil with an iris that is slightly covered with the upper eyelid (it’s not always the case but still).

Now take the eraser and rub out the guidelines: the upper part of the iris, and the other lines that you drew at the start. Now you need to draw the crease above the upper eyelid and small creases below the eye and near the corner of the eye. The eyelid crease looks different depending on what type of eyes you need to draw. Asian eyes have subtle creases that almost can’t be noticed.

The next step will be adding the shades at the ends of the creases, which depends on how the lights are set. Detail the eyebrow hairs to make them look real.

This is what you should get at the end. You can start with the pencil drawing and try coloring it in with color pencils or paints.

The space between the eyes should match the length of the eye, so you need to draw a straight line and divide it into the three parts. You should have something like that at the end.

Now work on the initial sketch, to add shape to the eyes. Draw the upper lines of the eyes, then draw the lower lines, and then draw the inner corner of the eye near the tear duct. If you draw them in that order, you will get nice symmetrical pair of eyes. Don’t forget to look at the example.

Now draw the pupils and irises of the eyes. If you are afraid to make a mistake, just add a dot into each eye and check if it’s symmetrical. Then draw the circles, keeping the dot right in the center of each circle.

Erase the guidelines outside the eyes and add the upper creases on each of the eyes.
